Having kids out of the question for many Bay Area residents due to high cost of living — San Francisco Community news

The cost of living in the Bay Area is keeping many couples from starting a family, according to a recent survey. Of the roughly 1,800 childless adults younger than 50 surveyed by Joint Venture Silicon Valley, with the Bay Area News Group, 56% said they are unlikely to have children and 58% said they can t afford to raise kids in the Bay Area. The screaming headline is that people feel hammered in the Bay Area, Joint Venture Silicon Valley President and CEO Russell Hancock said. They can t afford to live here, and it s getting worse. The main thing that’s upsetting to folks is that housing seems like it’s now completely out of reach. NBC Bay Area s Christie Smith has more in the video report above.
